Biography

French (1918-2008)

Born in Paris in 1918, Marcel Mouly grew to be a famous French abstract
painter. Mouly went through a number of different occupations before
attending French Academies to study art in 1935. In 1942 he was arrested by Germans
who believed he was a spy and spent the next year in solitary confinement.
It was during this time that Mouly took serious interest in his art. He
was influenced greatly by Picasso, Braque, and Matisse. He is best known for
his use of bright colors, strong strokes, with backgrounds developed from
analytic and synthetic cubism. Mouly's work is in the permanent collection
of over 20 museums all over the world including the Musee Nationale d'art
Modern in Paris. Marcel passed away in 2008.
